Roaring Point
01
In the fall of 2004, volunteers from the Friends of the Nanticoke River, the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Salisbury University assisted the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Wicomico County Parks Office staff in a shoreline restoration project at Roaring Point Park.

Approximately 100 feet of shoreline along the Nanticoke River damaged by Hurricane Isabel were restored using bio-engineering techniques that minimize shoreline “hardening” and emphasize the preservation of habitat for aquatic and water-dependent animals and plants. Funding for this project was provided by a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The Friends of the Nanticoke River also provided two interpretive signs for the park (with partial support from the same grant) to encourage visitors to treat the park well and to provide some information on the river’s history.
